Tanti Community

There are references to the work done by our community of weavers even in the Arthasastra of Kautilya. Our community was famous for producing fine fabrics such as moner mata, snigdha, dukul, patronnada and khowma in the past. During the late 19th century in particular, Tantis were held in awe and accorded a high social standing. Tantis belong to both the Hindu and Muslim communities.
